John began his insurance career in 1970 in marketing for Aetna Casualty & Surety. He left Aetna and moved to Grants Pass, OR, to join Hart Insurance Agency in 1974. He purchased majority ownership of the agency in 1984. He currently serves as the president of Hart Insurance Agency. In addition to being a licensed insurance agent in Oregon, Washington, California, and Colorado, he holds an Insurance Consultant License in Oregon and a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) professional designation.

Over the years, John has served on a number of local, regional, and national insurance advisory boards for Travelers Insurance, Mutual of Enumclaw, Trinity Universal, Industrial Indemnity, and Liberty Northwest. In 1997, John served as president of the Professional Insurance Agents Western Alliance, and he has also served in many other capacities within the organization.

For over forty years, John has had the opportunity to serve as part of the local Southern Oregon community through Rotary, the American Cancer Society, District #7 School Board, Josephine County Parks Foundation, Active Club, Kiwanis, Little League, and City League. John also currently serves as chairman of the board for Evergreen Federal Bank.

John was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1969-1975 and has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from University of Oregon.
